Do you think a graco pack n play would work as full time bed for first few months?

Literally used a pack and play for the first 1 1/2 years. Refused the crib but loved that pack and play. I bought a mattress for it and it inevitably became just like a crib.

We used a pac n play for the first year with my first born. Ours had a bassinet type attachment that vibrates and it was a lifesaver for us. Definitely using it for baby #2

Be sure to get one with a bassinet insert. And something that goes 3 levels- putting baby down/picking up from the bottom of a pack n play (depending on your height) is difficult. 
Lotus/Guava bassinet attachment to their version of portable crib. It’s AMAZING. So so easy to travel with, lightweight, mesh sidings, and super safe for sleep. 
Or you could look into maybe a mini crib?

Yes! Used a pack n play for my first. Worked great. I would suggest getting one that has the attachment to where it’s on top. Easier access to baby for the newborn stage.
