Anyone else's family uncomfortable about breastfeeding?

My son is only 4 months old and since he was born it's like "Are you still breastfeeding?" "Why don't you make him a bottle instead?" "When will you introduce the bottle so you don't have to nurse?" or they question my sons allergy to dairy because they don't believe what you eat effects breast milk or say "In my day we didn't worry about allergies and the children survived" 😑

That's just it, back in the day alot of children didnt survive. It's the knowledge we are constantly gaining that is helping improve survival ratings for both babies and moms. You do what is best for you and your little, everyone else be damned!

Oh! I remember my FIL saying “didn’t you pack any bottles?!” when we were out one time. I just replied, “why? Everything I need is in my bra.” That shut him up pretty wuick.

My in laws are ignorant when it comes to breastfeeding. They weren’t rude about it, but none of the women on that side bf, so they simply didn’t understand it, and I could tell they were uncomfortable by it.

I guess I never paid attention to if a family member was uncomfortable. I've never cared and nobody's said anything yet. Holidays are right starting next week so we'll see 🤔

No one in my family breastfed. My mom makes some comments about my sister giving me her covers (she stopped nursing at 3 weeks). I feel when she brings it up it’s less about being helpful and more about her comfort but I could be wrong. She witnessed me delivering both my kids so it’s not the first time she has seen my body. She just is a very private person so maybe she assumes I feel a certain way. My grandfather will leave the room when I get my son latched on but he is supportive that I am choosing to breastfeed.

My family definitely was. I’m the first in many many generations to breastfeed so none of my family has ever really been around a breastfeeding mother and baby. Luckily they were eventually supportive and learned a lot from me.

My MIL asked about bottles and such. Turns out she thought she was helping me by wanting to give my kid a bottle. She was old school and simply didn’t understand how much easier it was for me to just nurse instead of fussing with pumps or formula or bottles and all that.

My in laws were here for a week and saw more of my boobs than anyone probably cared to. My husband asked them if they minded and they said no. Then when they got here unasked again and they again said of course not. I am definitely lucky with the family married into.
