Will waiting longer make sex less painful?

Question

If we wait longer than the suggested 6 weeks, say 8 or 10 instead, will sex be any more comfortable?  Or is there just a “break in” period regardless?  Any tips for making it less painful?

We didn’t have sex until almost 10wks PP. I went to my 6wk PP appt and got my IUD in, had to wait a week to check and see if it was in place, it wasn’t, so had to get referred to a specialist who manually moved it into place, which made me bleed again. So long story short, we had no sex for 10wks, and it still hurt. I didn’t tear at all with labor either. I agree with someone else, lube, and try to relax when you do finally have sex.

It honestly depends. It’s going to depend on your pain and if you tore at all. There’s some woman who don’t even wait the 6 weeks (even though you should) and it doesn’t bother them at all. I personally had a 2nd degree tear and we were given the go ahead at my 6 week pp check up but waited another week. It was still painful and it was for a few months even after. We had to go slow and use lube. It’s just different for eveyone. You will have to just try when you feel ready and if you start and it’s too painful then you stop. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Longer = more healing time (if u had a vaginal birth). I remember after my first we tried at 6 weeks and it was so painful we waited longer (I had an episiotomy). W my second I think I was ready at 6 weeks (vaginal, natural tearing w stitches). Now it looks like a csection. I wonder if that is easier to bounce back w sex? Anyone have an opinion?

I think waiting longer couldn’t make it any worse. It’s kind of a psychological and physical thing. Go at your own pace. Best of luck, it got better than ever for us after our first in the end.

We tried with my first to have sex right at 6weeks but my pelvic muscles were still just to sore so we ended up waiting maybe more till 8weeks. Everyone is different some ppl are ok with sooner and some later. You’ll see how your body feels

I think it depends mostly on tearing. If you don't have a lot of tearing, it'll probably be fine either way, it's just a bit weird to use your vagina for sex again after a baby coming out of it. 
If you tear, it might hurt for a long while. Talk to your care provider about your healing if sex hurts when you try again.
