What should I do about my ex?

We’ve been broken up for almost 6 months now and recently I messaged him and we had a really good conversation and I mentioned that I still loved him and he had said it back but then the next day he only replied about two times and then today he messaged me late in the afternoon. I told him I would like us to try again and he explained that he’s really busy with school and work and he’s fine with catching up but not really I guess trying? Which I understand I mean I’m working two jobs and volunteering 3 days out of the week but I still find the time to text someone should I try to explain to him how I feel and look for or should I just call it quits.
