Baby Boy- Which Name?!

Julie

We are trying to decide on our baby boy's name but we're having so much difficulty. Part of the problem is that we are considering both changing our last name to Zavatti (my grandmother's maiden last name, pronounced Za-VA-tee) for cultural and symbolic reasons. I still have my maiden last name, Soukup. Our hesitation is ALL the legal BS we would both have to deal with, plus we have dual citizenship and multiple businesses and licenses etc etc... It's possible, but a Huge Headache (plus probably $1,500-2,000)!! We really like the pairing of American name with Italian name, but it's not necessary.

Theodore Vs Matteo:

Theodore (nickname Theo)- it's becoming SUPER popular (top 10). Also Theodore Hall is the name of a spy who helped to create the first atomic bomb. These are both negatives for us.

Matteo (Italian version of Matthew) (possible nickname Teo or Matt)- I'm afraid it will be mispronounced as Maddie-O. I've actually heard someoone pronounce the name like this before, so I'm sure it would happen again. Correct pronunciation is Ma-TAY-o.

There are 730,000 people in the world with the last name Hall

There are only 1,000 people in the world with the last name Zavatti- much more rare and beautiful, in my opinion.

The baby is due in 2 months, so for now his last name will be Hall, but we MIGHT change it to Zavatti in the future... Haven't decided yet. But the last name affects my feelings about the first name.

I could go on and on with other pros and cons but these cons are the biggest for us. I want a name that passes the resume test, but also I don't want a name that's too generic "John Smith"- like. It would be nice to have a name that makes you think, "this sounds like a nice guy... An honest, good guy." Ahhh I've been thinking about this too much! What's your opinion?!

Comments are welcome! I need other people's opinions because we keep going around in the same circles, and we want to avoid getting family opinions!
