What is the percentile ?

Can someone tell me what does below the 50th centile mean please? It’s on my growth chart..
Will my baby be smaller? I’m so confused..

Yes. It means your baby is on the smaller side. If your baby is in the 49th percentile, then that means there are 51 baby’s on average that are bigger and 48 baby’s that are smaller. You basically want it to be as close to the 50th percentile as you can.

What these ladies said about percentile.  Someone has to be near the top and someone has to be near the bottom - it’s not a like a test where 100 is better than 0. Nothing wrong with being on the smaller side - the important thing is consistency and baby following his/her growth curve.   Suddenly dropping off or being much larger than they have been can be a reason to look more at what’s going on with baby’s growth.

Percentile just refers to out of 100... so in the 50th percentile that means out of 100 babies, your baby will be bigger than 50 of them. Another example is 70th percentile, meaning out of 100 babies, that baby would be bigger than 70 of them. 50th is considered average
