I had mine a few months ago. I took a couple of ibuprofen about 20 mins before I went in. The process was quick and didn’t hurt too much but it was a bit uncomfortable. Unfortunately for me, they could only see one tube on the scan. It wasn’t that they thought my other tube was blocked, they just couldn’t see it. They wondered if I had a weird shaped uterus or something. I went for an ultrasound and the consultant said my uterus was fine. Having said that, they’ve arranged another hsg in Jan to ease my mind.Irritatingly both tests were arranged after ovulation so no chance of getting pregnant in the same cycle as the test. I’ve heard the process can be therapeutic though, so fingers crossed if there are any small blockages the dye helps to clear the tube.

How uncomfortable is it, if you don’t mind me asking? Have to have one soon and not sure what to expect. Bit nervous admittedly. Have to have it in preparation for IUI. Hope you get your shot at IVF soon. All the best, H

Forgot to say, I’m on the ivf waitlist so had to do the hsg test as part of the preparation. Hopefully we’ll get our shot at ivf next year
