Day care?

Question

When did you start looking at daycare places? Were they full already for when you needed it? Where do you live?
I hear that some people ask in the first trimester and there’s a huge waiting list. I’m 10 weeks and wondering if I have to start looking now. I’m in the Boston area.

I looked at 39 weeks because I just put it off so long. We got something good, but there were definitely places full for 12-18 months. I used to live in Boston and the daycare slots are pretty tight there. It wouldn’t hurt to call around and get an idea of when your top places have openings so that you have a realistic idea of when to secure a spot.

I started looking in the first trimester and many places were booking way out. One lady joked and said these days you have to secure a spot before you even know you're pregnant! For me, it was a major concern and I wanted to make sure it gotten taken off my to do list sooner rather than later. It certainly can't hurt to start looking/planning early.

I was plannong to stay home for a year then use my mom. She is no longer a long term option and I'm going back at 9 months. So, we have started searching and all are waitlisted until summer or fall

I started looking at 18 weeks and put our names on some lists. But then my husband was laid off so he stayed home with our son for a while. I then was able to secure a spot for him at one of the places at 5 months old when my husband went back to work. One of the schools told us we got in when my son turned 1 lol. I think we got very lucky to find one when we did.

I secured a daycare when I was 25 weeks pregnant. I don’t live in a large city like you but I didn’t want to be stressed out to find a daycare after baby came.
