AFTER THANKSGIVING VENT

My MIL questions me to no ends about why my SO is so anxious, or depressed, or on edge when we visit them. But she'll constantly poke and prod and keep prodding even after he clearly says "please give me space" "I'm not comfortable talking about this" "please let me calm down" or even flat out "I'm getting a panic attack please leave me alone" but no she keeps going and going. He leaves the room, she follows. He starts to get frustrated, she asks more.

I then have to deal with the fallout when they inevitably get into a fight and he ends up crying out of frustration in his room and doesn't want to be touched or talked to so I can't help him.

Or he punches his punching bag til his knuckles are raw and I need to help him clean them.

But she doesn't realize it that he's already past the breaking point...AND STARTS UP AGAIN!

This is so far from a relaxing vacation for thanksgiving it's ridiculous.

Her comments are always so backhanded and she doesn't even seem to realize it!

I wear a pair of leggings and a sweater? "Young people don't realize EVERYTHING doesn't need to be on display"

I have 2 glasses of wine instead of 1? "I just don't want you guys acting WASTED you're drinking so excessively"

My dog has a reflective harness so he doesn't get hit by a fucking car? "Wow even the girl dogs don't wear those in this house, ridiculous"

She's not a bad person by any means, she's actually very generous and well intentioned, she just doesn't know when enough is enough and when to just not say something

Sometimes I just wanna scream "YOURE 65!! Shouldn't you know by now when to just not say something if it's not nice to say?!"

Edit: the thing that made me post this is because on thanksgiving my SO took a break from socializing to go to his room and take a few minutes to decompress in between socializing and helping host. He was gone all of 10 minutes before his mother came upstairs and said "stop being a child, you're not 12 years old come downstairs!" He tried to say "I have social anxiety I don't like crowds at all let alone for such long periods of time!" She didn't back down and neither did he.

They both go to therapy but they still don't seem to ever meet eye to eye on almost anything, add the fact that he's adopted on top of it and there a lot of deep seeded issues between the pair.
