3 part question: Do you make more money than your SO? Does it have a direct affect on your relationship?

I currently make more money than my significant other for the first time in 7 years. He changed jobs in July, and took a bit of a pay cut. At that point I was making about $1,500-2,000 less than him, now I'm making $10,000 more than him a year. Everything always used to be split 50/50, even when I was working part time making minimum wage, and going to school full time. Now, I'm picking up more and more bills because he's not making as much money, and never really saved when he was making more. It doesn't really upset me unless I think about how the favor hasn't been returned - not because I expect it, but because I feel like it's the right thing to do. Am I enabling him, or being a push over? Or would this be something you would also do for your SO of 8 years?

If you’re not making the same amount of money I don’t think bills should ever be split 50/50, unless you’re just roommates lol. Just my opinion.

I would think, at your point in the relationship, you guys would have merged funds. I obviously don’t know your entire situation, but if you’ve been together for 7 years, why isn’t everything going into a shared account to pay bills and then you both have your own “walking around” money?

I make more than my husband, but all everything we make goes into a joint account which we then move some to savings and use the rest to pay bills. I honestly rarely ever think about how I make more. It’s more about how much WE make.

My fiancé and I typically split bills evenly. He’s always made more than me since we’ve been together. When we first got together he was making about $10-12000 more than me a year. We both have since changed jobs, to where were both making about $15,000 more a year. We don’t keep track of who is paying how much, we just make sure all the bills get paid and there’s food in the fridge. Normally I do the grocery shopping so would have that expense and he would pay utilities, but I would pay a few like internet and phones. I’m not sure who was paying more but it was about even. The only time we didn’t share expenses is when I left a full time job and was only working part time for about 1.5 months until I got another job, and he covered for me. I felt terrible about it (I left bc harassment issues from the CEO weren’t getting resolved and were getting my worse, and my partner actually encouraged me to leave). We have the mentality though that we’re a team. If one of us doesn’t have enough money, it’s okay, we’ve got the other.

I make about 10k more than my husband but I don’t have more - we share money and I usually pay for our holidays and extra things on top of my half for essentials like rent, bills and food.

I don't think you're enabling him I think it's normal in a relationship where finances are shared. 
When I graduate in a couple months I'm going to have a starting pay of about 50k and my boyfriend makes around 30k so we're going to make a joint account and both put 50% or so in for our bills like mortgage, utilities, etc. So I'm kinda paying more but like if we paid equal amounts he would have no money left and it's not like either of us will be hurting if we do it like this. 
I think it's a normal thing to do unless you're saying you pick up the extra slack and now he doesn't work as hard or he spends extra on stupid stuff because he knows he has your money too.

Hmmm your poll seems unrelated to your question. Hopefully your “relationship” doesn’t revolve around who pays for what. You guys have been together for 8 years but are merely two individuals... not a couple. A couple is a team, a team doesn’t function like this.
