Relactation progress!
I have seen a few posts lately where Moms are curious if it’s possible to relactate. I know I looked on here for possible success stories and advice.
Just wanted to reassure those who want to try that it’s definitely possible!! How much will depend on the situation/individual.
It’s a LOT of work and determination, but if it’s something you really want, it can be done. Basically- I stopped breastfeeding when my LO was about 3 1/2 months, she’s 5 months now. I thought I wanted to be done, to gain some freedom and move on, etc., but I ended up regretting it and very upset that I did. I had no idea I could possibly start again, until I did some research, and I just knew I had to at least try! I missed it, and missed our bond. I did always have a good supply, probably an oversupply, and LO loved to nurse, no issues there. She has since adjusted to formula though.
I started pumping every 2-3 hours, including once at night, letting baby latch often, and drinking more water, Gatorade, and Body Armour sports drinks, and I’m also giving Mothers Milk tea a shot. I started with drops, it was like that for probably a week or more, I was starting to get discouraged, but then one morning there was more! I pump an ounce now each session and hand express quite a bit all day long. I’m about 3 weeks in or so, so that’s my progress thus far. I latch baby before each bottle also, and I know she’s getting some bc I hear her swallow and it runs out of her mouth. I will keep at it for now. I hope to EB again, but if not I’ll be happy to at least get to 50%. I hear it could take just as long as it’s been that you stopped, to gain your full supply back- if I can even get a full supply back. So again, if you’re thinking of it and want to give it a shot, you should! You won’t know unless you try;) But it sure doesn’t happen quickly that’s for sure. Our bodies are def amazing though!
