Husband and MIL

I read so many posts about MIL issues and how husband's handle the situation. 🙋‍♀️ I admit a lot of them I can relate to. Today was different though. I am so lucky.

This fall I told my MIL we would no longer be celebrating holidays more then 1 time and we would rotate between our families. Their side got Thanksgiving and Christmas eve this year. My in laws decided 2 days before they were not going to Thanksgiving. They live 30 minutes away no reason to not come everyone else was there.

They left voicemails on Thanksgiving saying they are now not going to Christmas eve.

My FIL called my husband this afternoon and wanted him to come visit and bring the baby. Since they didn't go to Thanksgiving. My husband told his parents no! I couldn't believe it. He said we were busy decorating today and that was our plans.

I am still stunned...8 years this has never happened. I've felt like I had a partner today and that we were a team. My husband acknowledged it is a power play on his parents part and that's no ok to me.

He told his dad I cook and plan pack and organize everything and holidays are special. That just because their plans change ours do not have to and now they are at a loss because we've committed to other family's gatherings and are not going to do several with a baby and snow.

It has taken us so long to get to this point in our marriage and I finally mattered. What we were doing together mattered it was not me by myself. I have to give praise when it is due because it was a long time coming.

***Update: Thank you for all the comments I had no idea this post would be one so many other wives and mothers can relate to. It has been a safe place on here to talk about marriages and families. I also think we need to give praise when it is due.

My marriage is far from perfect but when we are a team working together as 1 we are stronger and better then when we are 2.

Our marriage is healthy and strong. For that I am grateful for. Wish the same for all of you.
