Normal amount of milk?

My son is a little over a week old and drinking 2-3 ounces of pumped milk when I’m not breastfeeding him. Occasionally he is still fussy and rooting after finishing 3 ounces. Is it ok to feed him more milk?

Answer

You should be fine to give him more. Because hes so young he may be going through a growth spurt and may be disgesting the milk quickly. If he is full, he'll just spit up the excess milk. My little boy and girl would feed a lot and the after 10/20 mins start rooting for more milk, I didnt think they could possibly be hungry but somehow they could take more. However I can now tell when my lil boy is full and just wants comfort, he will suck and the pull away and suck again and pull away. This is when I just cuddle him or give him a pacifier.

I wouldn't. Their tummies are so little a that age.  Hand sucking and rooting can also be just comfort, not necessarily hunger! 😁 Go by wet diapers!
