Does anyone else get annoyed when other people call YOUR child “MY baby?” For example, if LO is frying my MIL will walk on the room and say “What are you doing to my baby?”

I have a couple coworkers that call my daughter their baby. Like one asks me, “how is my baby?” I don’t mind it all. To me it just means she has people that care about her.

You don't have an option for "I like it". Everyone knows I'm mom. It's just a loving term of endearment. I love that others love my baby enough to claim them as theirs. It's sweet and shows me that they are invested in caring for my baby.

I don't think I've had anyone do this. I can't imagine it would bother me if it did. I mean, I think I'd be glad that a grandparent felt that type of bond with me child. But it takes a lot to make me jealous or possessive. The only way it would bother me, I think, is if that person had a history of trying to undermine me as my child's parent or something.

My mom has been waiting for a grandchild for years. Finally he's here, even though she REALLY wanted a girl and was audibly upset he was a boy. She is over that now, but even when I was pregnant, she's never said "your son". Always "MY grandbaby", "MY grandson". Makes me crazy.

My mil text my husband saying she’s excited for “my baby girl” and I told him to fix that shit rn before it gets worse lol. Didn’t bother me but I wanted to set boundaries ASAP

I love when people love my kid enough to think of him that dearly! I have lots of old grandmas at church who refer to him as “the church’s baby” or something similar and will say “I need to see my baby today” or something and I think it’s sweet :)

I’ve noticed older generations do this. Just shrug it off-like water off a duck’s back. I totally get how it’s annoying and boundary crossing but ultimately we are just in a different generation than most who talk like this.

It only bothered me when a coworker, who was very forward about how much she hated me, starting calling my son her baby. And asking to watch him and to see him. Everyone else is fine,  but yea not her.
