Does breastfeeding really help baby from illness?

Just wondering what you guys think. My baby is 6 months and she is formula feed and has only had a cold, which was over a month ago. She also stays home with me so I am sure that helps but I might be going back to work and will need to start looking at options for daycare. I have heard formula feed babies get sick so much easier, but is that honestly true? Just makes me nervous if that really is the case😭

Yes. Breast milk contains antibodies. This helps fight illnesses. My daughter is formula fed mostly simply because I don’t have a choice. Nothing wrong with it, it’s just not what I planned on. I still give her breast milk as much as I can because everyone in my family has been sick at one point or another since she’s been born. I’m hoping it’s helped

The reason breastfeeding helps fight illness is because there are receptors in nipples that take the baby's saliva and if the baby is getting sick our body will produce antibodies to help the baby fight the illness. Whether or not breastfed babies get sick less often I wouldn't say that, I just think they might get over it quicker or have better immune systems because of the antibodies they get from the mother. My baby has had 3 colds already but hes been in daycare since he was 8 weeks old. Hes breastfed.

My 1st son was breastfed for 6 months and caught his 1st cold from me about 7 months old. 
My 2nd son was breastfed for 11 months he didn’t get even a cold until he was about 14 months and he was going to nursery (daycare) from 9 months. 
Amelia is combination fed by bottle as she wouldn’t latch and at 5 months she just had her 1st cold this week caught off her big brother. 
In my experience it definitely does help.

My baby is formula fed only. Almost 5 months old is out around other kids and babies all the time and hasn’t had any issues. Not sure ?

Also remember, all babies are born with a basic immune system from their mamas which can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months so, even though your baby is formula fed, maybe the protection you gave them at birth lasted longer! 💪🏼

I have been sick a few times and my baby hasn’t gotten sick! I can tell my milk changes if I pump because of the color.

My eldest came home from pre school on Tuesday with a sickness bug... She was so so poorly... Next day I had it... Day after husband had it... 5 month old has been absolutely fine which is pretty amazing as I was still having to breastfeed her on the day I was sick.
She's had 2 ear infections (we go swimming alot) which the doctor gave antibiotics for but the second time before giving her them I put breastmilk in her ear and it cleared it up so much quicker than the antibiotics did
