2yr old w/ Croup or rsv?

I've tried googling and researching the difference between the two, and my son shows symptoms of both but I would say maybe more towards croup?? We took him in to urgent care the other day because he had been sick a few days but seemed to get worse so we thought maybe strep (my nephew had it and was visiting last week). Strep came back neg. And he doesnt have an ear infection. They listened to his breathing and said it sounded like a normal cold. That was friday it is now sunday night and last night and all day today he has been raspy, cant talk, has coughing fits and struggles to catch his breath afterwards and then cries. He also sounds like he's wheezing when he's breathing especially at night when he's sleeping. We are using a cool mist humidifier and vapor rub and I've also been taking him outside (wrapped up in a thick blanket) to breathe the cool air which seems to help a bit but he's still raspy. He's still playful for the most part and has had a mild fever on and off. I just don't know what to do because the info I was able to find online said there's not really any medicine or anything they can give you for either so would I be wasting my time even trying to get him checked out? I also feel like everytime we take him in they always brush it off as just a cold
