How much baby food are you feeding at 5 months?

My son will be 6 months on the 20th. We started him on solids when he was 4 months old. He's tried oatmeal, carrots, green beans, squash, pumpkin, apples, bananas...but up until now we've just been giving him it here and there every once in a while, not an actual "meal" and he never eats the entire jar. My Mom just told me I should be feeding him solids 3 times a day?? I asked a few coworkers who also have babies and they said by this age they were also eating 3 times a day and would eat an entire jar. I thought before 6 months it was just for fun? So I'm curious to see what others do. My LO is always hungry and is nursing every 2 hours at night so I'm wondering if I should be feeding him more.
