I was never spanked by my parents. They are very much against it. As am I. My mother has a PHD in child psychology so I’m sure that affected her decision a lot as well.

But I have other things to blame for what a hot mess I am. 
I don't know if spanking was productive, I was a stupid kid, I didn't consider consequences much until they were happening. I think it just made me view my parents more as the enemy & people I couldn't trust. 
Although spanking is kind of an easy thing to do, I think parents should actually be an example of emotional maturity and talk to their kids about things instead of hitting them. 
I think it's a rare case, though it does exist, where someone doesn't understand anything but violence. In that case, I understand using force. 
In most cases, I don't think it sends the right message, it's not the most productive. 
The world is becoming more nonviolent and diplomatic, slowly, and I think people who dig their heels in about old fashioned ways just don't get it. And I accept that. Progress is always slow. Discipline is good, but there are different ways to achieve it.

My brother was but I was always very sensitive and my punishment was getting raosed voices/yelled at because that's what made me listen
