Before traveling, do you learn the language of your destination country?

yes, i try to at least learn enough to get by. my parents made me learn a ton of languages as a child so i could be the family translator and go to meetings with our foreign subsidiaries LOL

Before we moved to korea, I learned words/phrases like: hello, thank you, goodnight, how much is this?, 1-10. Just random stuff. I learned some when I got there too, like how to pronounce all of their letters. I wish I’d learned more.

I've only traveled to english speaking countries. But I plan to travel a lot, and i don't pick up on languages as easily as my uncle (speaks several languages fluently and worked as a translater). so the odds are I won't be able to learn all the languages before visiting all the countries I want to. But I do plan to have those ear pieces that translate (they have one that works for 40 languages and 88 accents). Technology makes international travel easier.
