Cows milk for 9 month old?

At my sons 9 month appointment recently the doctor said I could give him about a cup of cows milk a day. Anyone else heard of this? Everything I read or heard before says no cows milk until a year. I’ve tried looking for research but haven’t found much...

The way I understand it cows milk itself is not bad for your baby. What is bad for your baby is to give cows milk instead of breast milk. People used to do this, but the nutrients are quite different, so it’s not a good idea nutrition-wise. But that doesn’t need to prevent you from having some cows milk in their snack, for example. I’m in Europe and many baby cereals here get made with cows milk and that’s considered OK. But until the baby is 12 months old it still receives breast milk/formula, too, and that’s predominantly the milk it drinks.

Our pediatrician tells us every time we go in that we can’t give our daughter honey or cows milk until after a year old. 
It’s the only thing she tells us every time so I have to imagine it’s pretty important.

I was told by my dr at 9 months I could introduce it. My daughter is exclusively breastfed, and is just starting to be willing to take a bottle. I give her milk with some meals, it has not been an everyday thing and it doesn’t replace and feedings

my oldest was taken off of formula and breastmilk at 9 months old bc he was over eating and gaining way too much weight and he has had lactose free or 1% milk ever since with no issues, my youngest is almost 10 months and gets a sippy cup if 2% milk w/ poly vi sol once a day. he only takes 3 formula bottles a day though (7am, 8pm & 3am) and has regular food, water, juice & milk in between.

I give my son cow’s milk with his meals.. its sort of to prep him to like it and get him ready for when I plan to replace his feeds once he reaches a year. So basically I’m using it as an introductory item.

It’s so the cows milk doesn’t fill them up and replace the nutrients they get from breastmilk or formula. As long as you don’t give it in large amounts or just use it in cooking like in their oats for breakfast or something then it’s fine. A whole cup of milk is not a good idea. Sounds like your ped got their qualification out of a cereal box or doesn’t give a shit about the health of babies. Just continue giving formula or breastmilk and stay away from whole cups of cows milk until a year of age.

I was told not til a year and even then maybe mix half breast milk half cow's milk to transition. But at 12 months they should get two cups of whole milk a day
