Could the pediatrician be giving me misinformation?

When I went to my sons six month visit last month the doctor asked what milestone he hit I told him him that he just started sitting unassisted but since being able to sit on his own he hates tummy time. He told me he didn’t need tummy time anymore. Like what???? I feel like tummy time is still important.

Can he get up and down from sitting on his own? What I’ve read is that once they can get themselves to a position (sitting, standing), it’s ok to let them do what they want. The wording is that horizontal babies need to be horizontal as much as possible -  so if they can only lay flat, they should have as much time there as possible so they can practice rolling, crawling, sitting (rather than being in seats, bouncers, etc.) Basically still give them lots of time on the ground but they can pick their own position, it doesn’t have to be on their tummy.

I think it’s still important. when our ped asked if we still do tummy time I told her not so much because he hates it now that he can sit up and she just laughed and said why would he like it when he can sit up now, he would rather do that lol so I think it’s okay if they don’t do it as much but we still do it because maybe it will give him more encouragement to crawl

My son is 6 months he plays on his belly. Hes trying to army crawl. In my opinion it is still importan.

I’m no doctor but I’d think tummy time is still important! My little girl is going to be 7 months and we still do tummy time. It’s how they start learning to bring themselves up on their knees to start crawling.

I’ve never really done tummy time. It’s a new thing! Sure she goes on her tummy sometimes but I’ve never forced it.

I think it’s still important just less so than it was in the beginning. And if they don’t get tummy time one day it’s not going to ruin them. Once my son learned to roll we couldn’t keep him on his tummy. We stopped putting tummy time in our daily routine and just let him decide what he wanted to do. He is thriving. He crawls, can get to sitting on his own, and pulls himself to standing and needs very little support to keep himself standing. I anticipate in the next few weeks he’ll be standing on his own without the need of the couch, chair, whatever he pulls himself up with.
