How long was your maternity leave ?

I am a nanny and the parents of the family are very laid back and are open to me deciding how long I want to take off for my maternity leave. I will be able to bring my baby with me to work when I do go back. They are just trying to figure out how long they need a replacement for but this is my first baby so I don’t know how much time I’ll need off and if I’ll be able to go back to work sooner since I’ll still have my baby with me.

Here in the states it’s typically 6-12 weeks

I care for a one year old and took 4 weeks off. I don’t get any paid maternity leave and barely had any pto so I needed to go back to make money. This week was my first week back and it went well.

Where I live we get 12 months up to 18 months, with my daughter I took off a year.

I took off 12 weeks

I took 3 months, but wish I could have had more time. It might have been different if my baby could come to work with me,  but I still miss her so much and I’ve been back at work for over 4 months.

I would take 12 weeks! When i nannied the lady was so nice and told me to take 12 weeks or whatever then brung the baby back with me. You will definitely need those 3 months to readjust to your new life before taking care of someone elses kids on top of it. Around 12-14 weeks they have more of scheduled they sleep more at night, you have a routine etc. anytime before that in my opinion is just a lot to add to packing up for work and nannying other kids haha

My job offers 9 weeks for birth mothers (6 for adoptive mothers) in addition to short term disability. I'm taking the full 9 and possibly the short term disability depending on our budget/finances.
