Take out got messed up.

I got take out tonight on my way home from a place that's 30 minutes away so we don't go there too often. I know some blame is on me because I didn't check before I left, I've just never had any problems with them but tonight we had food missing. I know it happens all the time at McDonald's and such which I usually let a dollar or two slide but the missing items totaled over $8 so I feel a bit ripped off. I just never done this so I don't know how to approach it?
