With my first daughter, I got a Britax B-Safe 35. It seemed like a very, very safe option to me. They're also made in the US, which appealed to my family. I was very happy with it. It was heavy and the cover wasn't machine washable, but it seemed very safe and sturdy and was easy to use.For my second daughter, I got a Chicco Keyfit 30. I got a deal on it so I could afford it while still getting a car seat I felt was very safe. It's a lot lighter than the Britax although I felt like the Britax was a little easier to use and adjust. My older daughter is now in a Britax Marathon with an Evenflo Tribute as a backup. The Britax is very heavy, but very easy to use and install. Again, the cover is not machine washable though. The Evenflo is lightweight, but I found it to be a pain to install correctly in my Corolla with the seatbelt and the harness needs to be rethreaded to be adjust. It was also a lower maximum weight than the Britax (40 pounds vs 65 pounds).
