Was I wrong?

Question

One of my good friends is a guy, and he’s gay. He doesn’t “seem” gay though so people are usually surprised when they find out he’s gay. From day 1 of this friendship, my boyfriend has been against it and extremely jealous acting. I’ve told him time and time again that he’s gay, and even if he wasn’t I don’t like him like that. I’m in love with my boyfriend, we have been together for almost 6 years.   
Anyway, my friend recently broke up with his boyfriend because he found out he was cheating, and they had tickets together to go to a concert. Since they broke up my friend asked me if I wanted to go with him instead, and I said of course. I am a huge fan of the band, but most importantly, my friend has been extremely depressed since his ex cheated and I wanted to have a good night out. The concert was 3 hours away but my boyfriend made it clear that if I was going, we were not to stay at a hotel/needed to come straight home.
Well after the concert we were both extremely tired and decided it would be dangerous for us to drive home, so I said we needed to get a hotel. My boyfriend called me a total of 15 times throughout the concert and I had to turn my phone off. When I turned it back on I had almost 100 messages from him freaking out/cussing at me. I called him and he said he was at my house waiting for me to get home. I told him we were going to get a hotel because it was 2am and we were so tired. He told me I better get my ass home or he would be breaking up. 
My friend heard my boyfriend screaming at me and I started crying so he took the phone from me and told my boyfriend to back off. My boyfriend called my friend a “faggot” and told him to stay out of it. My friend ended up hanging up on my boyfriend and shut my phone off. He said he’s abusive and I deserve better. 
We ended up getting a hotel and decided to stay for 2 more nights. We made a vacation out of it and had the time of our lives. I kept my phone off for the majority of the time and haven’t texted my boyfriend at all since. Was I wrong?

I think you were wrong for staying in a hotel with your friend after you told your bf you wouldn't. You should've made it a priority to leave in time to make that drive safely with decent energy. Failing that, you should've communicated with him thoroughly & done what you could do to set his mind at ease (like get separate hotel rooms).
He's definitely wrong for reacting the way he did. But that doesn't make you right for going back on your word.

Absolutely not. First of all, he’s your friend, he’s gay, and you were trying to help him feel better. Secondly he should have had your safety in mind instead of being so jealous and insane. If he thinks making you guys drive back at 2am and crazy tired was smart than he obviously isn’t thinking about you and your well being.

And you and your best friend deserve better. Don’t allow that asshole to come between you and your best friend, especially after his boyfriend cheated on him. Imagine the pain he would go through if he lost you too & you went back to your boyfriend￼￼￼. Move on.
