cramping and contractions with no other signs of labor?

I’m 38 + 5 and have been having bad cramping in my lower pelvic area, really bad lower back pain, and somewhat painful contractions for the past 3-4 hours but I’ve not had any other signs of labor. I haven’t lost my mucous plug (unless I did and mistook for discharge) and haven’t had bloody show. I got checked at my appointment yesterday and was only 1 cm. Is this false labor since I’m not having any other signs other than the pain and contractions?? Or should I call my doctor?
