Do y’all agree with “upgrading” wedding rings and/or engagement rings? Why or why not?

I just see a lot of people in groups posting their rings that their significant other just “upgraded” their rings, and I was wondering what everyone, even people who don’t have rings nor significant others, thought.

Some people can't afford something fancy or dont want to buy anything nice when they're first starting out. There's more important things to buy and they wait until a few years later when theyre more financially comfortable and buy nicer rings

I see why people do, but for me, I’m such a sap! I wouldn’t want an upgrade just because what I have was the start to our story, and although it may be a more humble ring, it reminds me of where we started. I love that, and I still love  wearing what he picked out and proposed with!

I don't really like the whole ring thing to begin with, except to keep people from hitting on me, lol. That would be the cool part of a ring.
Other than that, I don't like the history, I think diamonds are unethical, and I think fancy jewelry is a massive waste of money which could be better saved, or spent on something necessary. 
So of course, I can't fathom getting replacement or upgraded rings 🤔 
I know my mom has several wedding rings. And I can't relate, but I'm glad she is happy and able to have so many rings for reasons I cannot fathom.

I definitely would not, but that is because I love my ring. My husband actually wanted me to pick it out so that it would be something I would always love. I’m really glad he did!

It's up to the couple.  My husband planned on upgrading mine at our ten yr anniversary but I declined because it's a good reminder of our love having no monetary value. When we got married the 1/3 carat I have was a big deal for him to afford.

My first set wasn't made right so the gems fell out of it so about a year later I got a new ring. But yeah some people can't afford the best and wait. Which that's what my husband done. His ring was a sucky mass production which one piece broke and then he got a better one along with my new one.

The only reason I would ever consider upgrading is because my boyfriend wants me to have his mother's ring whom passed away. I've never seen the ring before but I think I'd be ok with having it for a few years and then maybe getting a different ring but with the same diamonds or something

If people want to, then yes. Styles change and some people like to upgrade. I am very sentimental so I don’t know how I personally would feel about doing it myself. But I’d maybe be cool with removing a stone or using the same band or something. As long as the couple are cool with it, then I think it’s nice.
