What is the anatomy scan?

This is my first pregnancy, I apologize for not knowing haha, but what happens during the scan besides finding out the gender? My OB said I wouldn't know about the anatomy til the week after Monday for the results of the anatomy... Help me out ladies!

They look at the baby's entire structure. Size, bones, organs, organ systems, literally everything! It takes about an hour

I've gotten immediate feedback from both tech and doctor the same day. We had our anatomy scan on the twins this morning. They check the brain, head size, nose, lips, stomach, kidneys, belly size, bladder, spine, arms, legs, hands, feet, then get multiple pictures of the heart to make sure all four chambers are fully formed. My OBGYN group has techs on staff, maybe that's why. The techs always point out everything they're looking for and if it's normal, then the follow up with the doctor is right after if there's anything to discuss.
