Subchorionic hematoma, ER scare

Olivia

I’ll try to keep this long story short, I just wanted to share Incase anyone else goes through this so they can keep up hope. I had the scariest thing happen on Thursday 12/12.

My first ultrasound was scheduled for 12/13, completely normal pregnancy so far, nothing off. I get in my car with my 8 month old and all of a sudden I have a gush of blood (thought I peed myself but I looked down and could see the blood went through my underwear and pants)! Bright red, light/moderate flow. Sorry if this is TMI, but while on the toilet, it was trickling out of me, lots of bright red blood on the toilet paper when I wiped. I immediately called my OB and they said I needed to go to the ER right away. At the ER for 4 hours. I was convinced I had lost the baby.

Ultrasound & hcg later (191,374), babies HR 158, measured 8 weeks along. Everything was fine. I continued to bleed for a few hours but then it changed to brown blood and now I have only light spotting when I go to the bathroom.

So, I was devastated when I saw all the blood, and my husband told me to keep hope.. If something like this happens to you, know there is a chance it is a subchorionic hematoma, a pooling of blood between membranes that can be totally harmless and resolve in a few days or so. Now of course, if you experience any bleeding, call your OB or head to the ER! But if you don’t see a bunch of tissue/clots, aren’t having any cramping or pain, SCH is a possibility.

I had a follow up yesterday & babies Hr was 175, we got to see it flickering on the screen & they said everything looked great. I’m thanking my lucky stars that it turned out this way, and I am so sorry to anyone who has experienced a loss. I had a very early loss with my first pregnancy, and I know it can be devastating anytime it happens. ❤️
