Why do you want children?

Question

Someone asked me today “why do you want children?” There are so many reasons but I simply responded that I’ve always wanted to be a mom and give and receive unconditional love, also that I love my partner and want a little 1/2 him. She responded that I was selfish to want unconditional love and that wanting a “little 1/2 of my partner” meant that I thought my partner wasn’t enough. What are all your reasons for wanting children?

She’s probably a very bitter and unhappy person and you probably couldn’t have said anything that would have made her think it was a good response 😬😅

I wanted children because I enjoy nurturing.  I always have.  I nurtured everything from stuffed animals to pets to neighbor children when I was a child.  So it made sense that I should want to be a mother.  
With my third baby, I wanted to experience being a parent with my SO.  He wanted the experience of being a father (my older children were teens when we started dating) and I wanted to parent with him.  I wanted the experience of a whole family.  I didn’t have that as a child or with my big kids.

I've always wanted to be a mom too, I love nurturing, I have A LOT of unconditional love to give. But somehow there's also a part of passing on genetics. That by the way is in no way egocentric or selfish.. it's basic biology and instinct.
I always wanted to foster too, taking in kids from dificult households and giving them love and structure while they still have regular contact with their parents as I found that part extremely important. Unfortunately that won't be possible because of our current family situation.

I wanted kids because I was the oldest of a significant age gap and really enjoyed helping my mom take care of my baby sisters. I always wanted to have that full experience.
