Question

How do you bring romance to a relationship when your partner is not romantic at all? When you suggest romantic gestures such as special date nights, flowers, spontaneous acts of affection but they’re just not into it? I’m engaged and rethinking everything because I don’t feel I’m getting the level of romance I need to be happy in a marriage, BUT he is meets my needs in all other aspects. Should I just look past it??

You need to look into a book called the 5 languages of love. Everyone’s is different. You have a way that you like to give and receive it. Same for him. Maybe his way of showing love is different than the way you are hoping to get it. They are words of affirmation, acts of service, physical touch, receiving gifts, and quality time. My boyfriend definitely likes to show me his love by quality time but I prefer physical touch so he knows that and will make sure he does things like cuddling me even though he HATES cuddling.

My fiance was not romantic at all. So I would do things for him. Plan our date nights, write him love notes to put in his lunch box, anything I could do. Fast forward to about 2 years later and I started recieving random flowers, love notes on the counter when I get ready for work, and he will even bring me home a snack for work the next day. He will not plan out date nights but instead will suggest going out together. Everyone loves differently, sometimes they dont want to feel dumb or sappy for doing it. And some just flat out dont know how. If you grow up and see it its easy, but if you grow up in a household where that doesnt happen you wont know how to even go about it. My fiance literally would just do what I did and then slowly started being more romantic because he seen how much it meant to me. Try talking to him about it. Tell him why you need the romance, and give him ideas. I know its not what you want to do, but sometimes a nudge in the right direction is all they need.

You’ve said you’ve mentioned it to him, but have you told him just how important it is to you? 
My boyfriend isn’t a huge touchy person but I really like small things like his arm around me, so when I want it I just tell him I want him to do it. So, maybe you just need to be straight forward and kind of guide him to what you want.
