If he had to work I would understand. Such as military, EMT, nurse, police officer, store clerk. We all need these places to function all the time.

Unless we both agreed to spend those holidays separately then yes I would be upset. We live together so it would be weird to not spend those days together. But there has been a couple years where I went to my parents house in the morning and he went to his parents house and then we spent Christmas afternoon/night together.

It depends, my husband and I spend Christmas together, but last year he was in another state for New Years at a special bruins hockey game with his friend, and it was like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Was I sad not to ring in the new year with him? Sure! But it wasn’t like he was ditching me, he had an amazing opportunity and honestly if I was approached with it I would have said yes too! We’ll have plenty more New Years together, but I doubt he’ll get a chance like that again.

Depends why. But I’d be sad with him not being there. But coming from a family of cops and nurses, sometimes holidays are not celebrated on the actual day

If he could and chose not to, it would basically break my heart. We’ve already been apart too many Christmas’... this is the first one we will be together even though we have tried for the last 4 (all kinds of immigration problems). Especially now that we’re starting our family 😊, Christmas time is meant to be family time.

My partner will be spending Christmas with his family while I will be spending it with mine. Our families are 10 hours (driving) apart. 
I also live 11 hours (driving) from my family. I see them 3-4 times per year if I’m lucky. I see my partner nearly every day. 
Not spending Christmas with him is not breaking my heart. It’s not a big deal.
