I have 3 step kids (8, 9, and 12) and I wouldn’t trade them for the world, but it’s definitely tough sometimes. I’m currently pregnant with my first biological child, but I came into the situation with zero parenting experience. 
It’s really rewarding seeing them pick up things you’ve taught them. I’ve seen so many positive changes in the kids in the last 4 years. It makes all the tough times so worth it.

I think it depends on the situation, my husband’s ex brainwashed my two stepsons for years. It took my oldest to turn 18 to realize that. Now we are very close!

Im a stepmom it’s tough... my stepson doesn’t live with me, but he visits and his mom has his head all full of junk and negativity about my husband and myself... 
I love him and spend the weekends with him... despite his mom filling his head with bs. He loves me, because I’ve shown him that no matter what I’ll always be on his side. And love him unconditionally, it was tough at first because he treated me terrible but I was still there. I met him when he was 2 we were finally able to develop a good relationship when he was about 10, (he’s 11, so about a year ago... took 8 years of trying)  
It’s tough and sometimes heartbreaking when you put yourself out there for a stepchild but... when you love someone that’s what you do..
