Help!!! Ear Infection?!

Question

How do you tell if your baby has an ear infection vs. just discovering their ears?
Baby girl had runny poops yesterday and today has been fussier than usual and grabbing at her right ear. 
But... when we give her something to do, shes no longer fussy. 
Husband thinks we just need to clean her ears. And I really don’t want to have to take baby girl to the hospital on Christmas for an ear infection 🥺 (obviously I will if I need to)
So, what are some sure signs of it? Or does this sound like it?

Sounds like it to me, my girl has gotten 4 so far 😒 i notice she has them when shes messing with her ear especially when shes eating because it hurts their ears when sucking a bottle. She gets very fussy and doesn't want me to lay her down because of the pressure. But she will be fine at times if a toy distracts her. But then again, she's been messing with her ears and hasn't had one lol. Its all so confusing! It sucks that the only way to know is if we take them in to see the Dr 😭 i hope she doesn't have one for Christmas! Mine has one now 😔

It can be a sign of teething! The loose stools could be from extra drool too. My little guy started playing with his ears, sucking on his lip, and refusing his bottle all in the same day! (he’s breastfed but takes one bottle at night before bed). I still don’t feel or see any teeth but I know they’re coming 😬

We spent Thanksgiving day at the hospital due to a high fever with my daughter, along with being super fussy. She ended up having an ear infection, that turned into a double ear infection, along with RSV, but we didn’t know that at the time, but she wasn’t pulling or messing with her ears. But being super, super fussy.
