Thanks guys!! I googled it and it does look like a Mongolian birthmark! I’ll still ask his pediatrician about it to be sure but I feel so much better. I thought I had hurt him by mistake.

I googled Mongolian mark after reading some of the other comments. Looks like that to me, give it some time and see if it fades. What I read says it’s basically a birth mark that appears on lower back/butt and will fade. There is no health concern associated with it. 
If it goes away in a few days/week or so then probably bruise. If it stays for awhile then probably Mongolian mark. You could ask your ped next time you bring baby in.

I find it hard to believe this is a Mongolian mark that the OP just didn't notice for 2 months..... Assuming you know it's a new thing, I agree with another commenter that it's probably worth seeing the pediatrician, as that's an awfully large discoloration to pop up for no known reason.

Absolutely looks like a bruise. At 2 months, what could a baby do to get a bruise that big in that spot considering he can barely move at this age? Wow. I'd have him seen by a doctor to make sure there's nothing else.

My daughter has darker/tanned skin (half white and middle eastern). She had a.tiny magnolia spot that I swore was a bruise from burping her too hard. Lol.

Its a birthmark, my daughter had it. Same spot. I came home one day and my Aunt was crying thinking she broke my baby, trying to take her out if the swing. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I told her it was always there. My daughter is more olive tone do it didn’t look so purple

My son is biracial and has the same mark.  He also has some birthmarks that are dark and some without pigment.  Some I noticed right away some not until much later...
