Evening Primrose Capsules?

I met with my midwife today. She suggested I start using Evening Primrose Capsules, one a night daily to start softening my cervix. Has anyone ever used it before and saw results?

They are wonderful to prevent tearing — helps your elasticity.

I used them with my first starting at 38 weeks. Took 1000mg orally and vaginally and did perineal massage. I was 1cm when I started, at 39 weeks I was 2cm and 80% effaced, had my daughter at 40+1. Only needed 1-2 small stitches, I barely tore. 
I started taking them this time at 36 weeks. Same dosage, 1000mg orally and vaginally, though this time I can’t reach to do perineal massage.

I take 2.a day orally (one in AM and one in PM) and 2 vaginally at bed time.
