Newborn with ingrown toenail

So my son is 5 weeks. I noticed at 3 weeks his nails were growing weird on his big toe. I read up on it and it just said to soak the toe and try to massage it. I did and the nail looked like it loosened. I did it for 3 days and it seemed to be staying out so I left it alone. Well, my boy has been oddly fussy. And the toenail looks like it went back. I soaked it and massaged it again and it loosened up. I put some antibacterial cream just in case. My question is how do I get it to stop growing like that? His doctors office is closed until after the 2nd of January. They’re opened 3 hours a day for emergencies only. And I don’t want to waste their time when there’s babies that are really in an emergency so I want to try to wait until they’re reopened for everyone.
