DayQuil for a cold?

I am dyinggggggg from a cold (I hope it’s just a cold)! I just bought some generic DayQuil as I’ve read it’s safe ti take, but my MIL just texted and said that it is not safe. Baby is 4 months old, ebf, second child. I breastfed my first fit 15 months but was never sick so I didn’t have to take anything during that time. Help please!

Double check the actual DayQuil you bought, but it seems the active ingredients are: Acetaminophen 325Mg, Dextromethorphan Hbr 10Mg, Phenylephrine HCl 5Mg
Info from kellymom (lactation consultant):
- Both pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine are generally considered to be safe for the breastfed baby, but pseudoephedrine may reduce milk supply. 
- Both Ibuprofen and Tylenol Acetaminophen are considered compatible with breastfeeding.
As for dextromethorphan, Kellymom had not specific info, and another source I found said “neither the excretion of dextromethorphan in milk nor its effect on breastfed infants have been studied.” So I guess that one’s a bit of a gamble. 
Kellymom did also say though that it is better to choose meds with a single active ingredient to treat the specific symptom you have rather than a multi-purpose medicine that covers various symptoms.

I just took it last week and my supply didn’t change and baby is fine! Everything I read says it is ok in small doses

I had a horrible cough and took NyQuil two nights in a row and one DayQuil it did not kill my supply. Just keep nursing baby.

Don’t take it if your breastfeeding. It will kill your supply  It dries it up
