Birth before 2021?

Question

I’m just now hearing that some people plan the birth to fall in the same year as conception for insurance purposes. Example- an acquaintance is due in December 2019, but wants to make sure the baby comes before 2020 so the insurance deductible doesn’t reset. 
Have any of you heard of this? If this is something I need to consider, then we will be TTC in Feb and March. 
What would be the difference if we TTC in the summer and have a 2021 baby with insurance?

Depends on what your deductible is. If people meet their deductible then their birth would be covered by insurance. It resets the 1st of the year

You sound like my husband who wants a child tax credit lol. If only it were that easy Id already have a baby by now. Ideally, yes, it’s better for tax and insurance deductibles to have a baby before the first of the year, but life doesn’t always cooperate. If we’re lucky we’ll get a baby via IUI before 2021, but with our IVF plan we most likely won’t get a baby before 2021. Infertility sucks.

That’s the ideal situation. It’d be great to choose exactly what month you get pregnant, but it generally isn’t that simple.

I think you would probably meet the deductible with all the first year appointments with the baby too. Most people try same year to make sure they can claim the baby as a deductible for that year's taxes. My deductible is 1500 and I met that without having a baby, but I had a lot of medical issues (miscarriage) this year :-P and after realizing it can take up to a year to get pregnant I dont think picking a date to birth or get started works out all that great.
