Need serious help 😥 *UPDATE

I hope this is the right place to post this I need help. I have been EP for about a month or so now with my 10 week old baby. I didn't have too many issues in the beginning but the last few weeks have been rough. I was hardly getting any milk from my left side but I could tell it was engorged but it seemed "stuck"? Also both of my nipples have started cracking really bad and I have some serious "scar tissue" at least that's what I think it is. It's a light area around my nipple that gets flaky and its sensitive and just looks like a scar. My questions are am I using my breast pump wrong? From what I have researched and seen I use it how I'm supposed to. Do I need to call my doctor. They hurt so bad to the point that barely touching them makes me cry. I use lanolin regularly and after every pump session. I'm just at a loss. Anya advice would be appreciated. ❤

*UPDATE*

I dont really know if its needed or if anyone really wanted a follow up. But here it goes anyway 🤷🏿‍♀️ I called our local lactation service and they suggest I come to a group that they have on mondays and wednesdays. I really enjoyed it and learned alot about what my issue was. Apparently she is more than sure that I have yeast or thrush and that's what's causing all of my issues. I had the right size flanges and was doing everything right. Yay me! So I just hopefully have to get rid of the infection and it should get better :) thanks for all the advice ladies, I used a lot of the help you gave me.❤

Make sure your lubricating before and after. I use coconut oil before and Motherlove Nipple cream after. I also swapped out my spectra standard flanges with Pumpin Pals. They are silicone and soft instead of hard plastic and they are way easier on the nips. Plus you can lean back while you pump which makes it so much more comfortable to pump as well.

I'll look into it. I've been lubricating but I'll try the coconut oil

A few things I can think of:-have you replaced any of the pump parts especially the white duckbills (exclusivepumping.com has an article about how often to replace each part) -are your flanges the correct size-try using coconut oil before and after each pumping session, I prefer it to lanolin personally-if you can try to contact a lactation consultant or go to a breastfeeding support group I hope some of this helps. Good luck

I'll have to try that. I've been having issues with my pump stopping in the middle of a session because of an incident with my milk

I have the Lansinoh pump and had to replace the white duckbills after two weeks, and I was pumping 10-12 times a day. Now I pump 8 times a day so hopefully will be able to make it 3 weeks with this set. I definitely noticed a difference after replacing them though

Do I have to replace them so soon? I'm pretty sure the size is right. I only have 2 sizes and one is way too big.

Hey mama! Have you gone back to work? Is that why you’re pumping? Is baby still latching? Make sure your flanges are the correct fit. What type of pump are you using?

Thank you! I will!

Make sure you don’t have the suction too high as well. You can try cold packs as well but if it continues to hurt I think you should contact a lactation consultant! Hope it gets better!

I went back to work about a week ago. I confused myself when I wrote this he is not breastfed anymore. I'm using the lansinoh smart pump. And I'm pretty sure I'm using the right flanges. 🤷🏿‍♀️

Hey mama! Sometimes the pump is not strong enough. It helped me to go into the shower with the hottest water setting possible and massage with oil until the milk started coming out freely. It could be a clogged duct. Honestly, once I even got my husband to suck it out🤷‍♀️

There is a site you can use to find the correct measurement of your flange. I believe it's a medela site. You use a string to measure around your nipple and they tell you if you have the right size. Coconut oil worked WONDERS for me! It was way better than any other product and I knew it was safe for the baby. I used it before and after pumping! If you keep getting worse, I'd call a lactation specialist. Most people don't even know the home or hospital visits are covered by insurance

I've used a heating pad to help de-clog. My main issue is just what its going to my nipple :(
