Parent rights?

Ok so I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant and originally the father said he wanted nothing to do with the kid so I was going to give it my last name and I wasn't going to put the father on the birth certificate well now he is saying he wants the kid to have his last name but I'm still not putting him on the birth certificate but if I do give my kid his last name does that give him rights to fight for custody of the kid and take him/her from me?

Just keep your baby with your last name.
He sounds like trouble....and yes, it does unfortunately pose more problems

Put his name on the damn birth certificate. I hate this game that people play. He is still your baby's father. Of course it's a different story if he doesn't put effort in or whatever but remember if he gets a paternity gest done it'll show he's the dad and the whole not putting his name on the birth certificate  thing would be redundant.

If he doesn't want to be listed as the father he loses out with the last name.  He either gets both or none, he doesn't get to pick and choose even if it is his kid.  Honestly, its likely easier to do what you want now and change it to add him later on than to do what he wants and regret it.

In NC you can give the baby whatever last name you want, without listing the father. Putting him in the birth certificate does give him rights to the child, but he can go to court, get a fan test and get those same rights anyways. You need to find out the laws in your state and make your decision according to those.

Do not. DO NOT give your baby his last name. It will cause you problems. At least where I live you have to list him on the birth certificate to do that and that gives him as much right as you have as a parent.

You're the mom, it's your choice if you want baby to  carry that name. In my sister situation, it was better to have her son take her name as that was the family who cared most for him.

You know unless your married the only way he can have his name on the BC is if he signs it. It's up to you what last name. If you don't put his name he can go to court get a DNA test and his name will be added. But that's up to you to. But years years ago you could put anyone's name on the BC no problem but nowadays it's different.
