When to take baby to doctor?

My son is 5 weeks.. since last night he has had a cough not a wheezing one just a little cough. —No fever, this morning he woke up stuffy & he’s real drowsy. He’s still eating good (breastfed) but he’s spitting up. I feel like his throat hurts every time he swallows he makes a little face.

I personally wouldn’t bring to the doctor unless they have a fever, wheezing or difficulty/rapid breathing.

Our baby started to get congested and we placed a humidifier in the room and it has cleared his stuffy nose. Maybe that’s a start?

Take him in! My son started with a little cough and congestion. I took him to a walk-in clinic and they gave him an antibiotic. The next day he wasn’t doing any better and he was spitting up a lot. At that point I was more concerned that he would get dehydrated from all the vomiting than I was about the cough, so I brought him to my doctor. When she examined him she noticed laboured breathing and suggested I take him to the emergency room. Long story short, he had RSV and was hospitalized for 6 days. With babies this little they can change so quickly, don’t wait because you feel silly taking him in for the sniffles!

I'd take him in just to be safe. I thought my son had a bad cold and it turned out to be RSV.

Everything I read recently says under 2-3 months to contact doctor at the first sign of sickness. My family caught a cold from my 18 month old nephew and I took my 5 week old in to see the doctor when his only symptom was stuffy nose and sneezing. The doctor said it was good to bring him in, but that until he has a fever (100.4°F) it's probably not a big deal. We've been monitoring his temperature (rectally) regularly since my nephew had a fever for about half a day with this cold and so far he's been fine. I figure better to overreact and go to the regular doctor than have to go to the ER. Though with New Year's Day coming up you probably won't be getting in to see your regular doctor..
