Doula in training?

This is my 3rd child and I'm looking to have an all natural hospital birth this time around. I am looking into hiring a doula but see that they can be a bit pricey. I have seen doulas in training are a fraction of the cost and was wondering if anyone has used a doula in training, and what was their experience? Thank you.

My aunt was my doula in training that attended our birth of my son. She's not the best example because she's also a nurse so her training is much more extensive. However , I have many friends who are doulas. They are required to read numerous books and  take courses prior to attending their first birth. They usually do at least three births before they get certified.

Try looking at the doula international website and find a contact for a trainer in your area- they may be able to point you in the right direction.
