Wanting to breastfeed 24/7

Elle

So right now, I mainly pump and breastfeed every now and then. My baby girl is 9 days old and she seems like she prefers my breast over the bottle but when I breastfeed her I feel like she’s never eating enough...at least with a bottle I can see how much she’s consuming per feed. Also my boyfriend wants to help as much as possible so that’s why we’re bottle feeding too and so she can get used to it when we put her in daycare. I really want to just breastfeed at this point but I’m so confused. I’m a FTM here so a little advice would be great.

She is cluster feeding and it’s completely normal. She’s trying to boost up your supply to fill her needs. My daughter cluster fed until about 3 months old. I don’t have any advice with pumping bc I hated pumping it was too much work. If you want to breastfeed and pump less just look out for how much baby is peeing and pooping. If she’s hAving enough wet/dirty diapers she is getting enough.

Mostly look at the wet diapers. It's totally normal for breastfed babies to go a few days without pooping, it's only a concern if once they do poop it's hard. My son never had a pattern but would occasionally go a day or 2 without. My friend's son pooped every 10 days like clockwork.

When she is being fed a bottle, make sure she is being pace fed otherwise she will be over fed.

You are probably fine to just breastfeed! You can check with a lactation consultant, and do a weighted feed if you’re concerned. I did this when my baby was 1 week and 2 weeks old because I was supplementing with pumped bottles (he was 1 month early) and it showed he was getting enough each feed, so at 2 weeks I stopped pumping and only breastfed.
