Newborn one kidney

We just had it confirmed that our 2 week old has one kidney. Based on research and information provided this is more common than I thought and not actually a huge deal. I am still heart broken and worried sick over it. Does anyone else have the same situation?

My brother was born with 2 but had to get one taken out right after he was born due to it not working. He’s 25 now and has played sports he’s not suppose to and he’s just fine. No health problems!

Thanks for your reply. Is there any precaution your brother took growing up?

I had a baby with no kidneys. Bilateral Renal Agenesis. It was found at my anatomy scan at 18 weeks. No amniotic fluid, heart hardening, lungs wouldn't develop, would be malformed. They said he would last two minutes outside of the womb and would suffocate to death. I decided not to go full term. I had a potassium chloride shot injected to stop his heart. I then had an induced labor, 12 hours and almost bled out. Luckily they did not have to do the d&c they were threatening to do if I bled anymore. I hid the bloody towels. Didn't care if I died, I just wanted him to come out whole for the only dignity he had left. They said it's was a fluke since it wasn't genetic.

Don't have the same situation, but I know a handful of adults who live fine with just one.

My nephew is 13 and was having other issues and had Ct scan done this past year. We just found out he only has one kidney. All the ultrasounds they totally missed that he only had one. Anyway he is completely healthy and has no issues with only having one. Try not to worry to much!
