Feeling torn between home birth and midwife at hospital..

Alex

So, this is my 3rd pregnancy and after having some bad experiences with my first 2 hospital births, I have been set on having a home birth this time. here’s the dilemma.

I’ve now had 2 UTIs from GBS bacteria, so I automatically fall into a higher risk category with needing antibiotics while in labor.

I’m also still trying to manage my hypothyroidism and recently found out that it is stemming from Hashimoto’s...

Both of these things I never dealt with in my previous pregnancies so I’m really bummed out.

The thing I’m nervous about with the home birth is them not getting to me in time to give the antibiotics, or something happening and requiring a transfer to the hospital. (They are 35 mins away). I also wanted a water birth but that might not be best since it can increase risk of transmission of GBS from what I’ve read.

I have been seeing an incredible midwive at the current dr office I’m at. If I could guarantee that she’d be with me at the time of delivery, I’d go there.

But I also don’t want to be bullied about my natural/holistic decisions I’ll be making for my child if I end up with the on call doctor.,,

The hospital is 30 mins away, so either way, if I went into labor, the time until I got the antibiotics would be the same.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

I’m supposed to have my next appt with hospital midwife next week, and my first official appt with home birth midwives the following week (where I’ll be paying a non refundable $500 deposit). 😣
