Did you go to college

Question

Did you go to college? If so, did it benefit you in anyway? I’m not sure if I should go or not because I have difficulty in school. A lot of people tell me that they have so much money in debt from college. I’m a senior so I should make up my mind about it.

I didn’t go. I might at some point but i haven’t yet. I’m 18 and graduated last year. I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I didn’t want to waste money while I was unsure. Don’t jump into it if you don’t know. Honestly the teachers and counselors at school made it sound like if you didn’t go right after high school, you’d miss the opportunity, but that’s not true at all. Dont forget there are trade schools and stuff too

I went to a private 4 year University and absolutely DO NOT recommend it. I got in so much student loan debt, and my degree was/is pretty useless for a while. Same thing with my husband. He used his degree for a while but then we moved and he could only get a job in construction. 
I think spending 4 years investing in a company and working your way up in there will get you much further than $60,000+ you have to pay off and a pretty receipt.
The reason everyone recommended getting a degree was because they were so rare. It pretty much guaranteed you success because nobody else has one. Now they are super common and they put you in so much debt, there is not much benefit.
If you really want an education, use Khan Academy, or a specialized online school. Or take some community college classes at the most. 
Unless you want to be a Dr, nurse or engineer, I do not recommend going to college.

It depends what you want to do for a career. There are lots of 2 year degrees and certificates that will prepare you for high paying jobs. But it's not worth it if you don't enjoy that type of work. 
Most jobs that only require a high school diploma don't pay much. But you can take online courses to get licensed to do other things, like selling insurance.

I’m currently going to a 4 year state school and I really like it. 
If you’re wanting to go to college, start looking at scholarships early, stay in state (cheaper), fill out the FAFSA, and consider a community college. I know a lot of people go to a community college for a year or two to get the general education classes out of the way for cheap then transfer to a 4 year school to get an undergraduate or a bachelors. Also, living at home if you can saves you a lot of money.

I have a Psyd and if I had it to do all over again I would do a trade. For me specifically, I would be an electrician. Job security, not much debt, always in demand.

I went to a community college in the next town over from my hometown. I only took 3 classes because that's how much I could pay for. The first semester I took one class and the second semester I took two classes. I had planned on doing this again for the following year but I ended up moving out of state and never doing it. I'm glad I went because I learned so many helpful things that I'm going to use for the career I want. I also surprisingly had a blast there.
