Dirty dishes, pt. 2
Some of you have already seen a post about having roommates that don’t do the dishes and letting them pile up for days.
Well this is an update to that post, for those who care to read. It should be noted that we only hand wash due to no machine being in our kitchen.
Update from previous post:
I’ve decided to only wash my own dishes, and leave the rest for the others. They still use most of the dishes and those dishes continue to pile up over days. One of the roomies is recovering from an injury and is in a cast for his calf. So he’s on crutches.
But the other roomie? She is the one who got mad that she had to do the dishes (I’ve literally only seen her wash dishes maybe twice over the past several months.)
We had a talk and she mentioned us all sharing our part and taking turns washing dishes. Great. So I did the dishes when it was my turn. But when it was her turn? She lets them sit and sit and sit. For days.
I went downstairs the other night to find the injured roomie doing them. The INJURED one. The one who has to walk around on crutches. I was fuming because he’s not supposed to be up doing those things, he’s supposed to be sitting recovering. I don’t mind that he’s not doing the dishes because he tore a ligament. I’m not mad at him, I’m mad at the other roomie who just doesn’t want to do them.
Well I figured maybe she helps out in other ways? She does her own laundry, that’s fine. But she will do a half ass job with cleaning the living room, say she needs a nap and leaves. And when me or the other roomie makes dinner she perks up and says “Oh is there enough for the rest of us?”
I guess this is more of a rant to the one roomie who I feel isn’t carrying her own weight in the group. She doesn’t clean up after herself... she’s left groceries out to rot, she has the rest of us take care of the household chores while she sits on the couch on her phone most the day. But she’s claimed that she has such little energy because she’s just so overwhelmed with work and her personal life stresses. She says she doesn’t like to wash dishes. Guess what? I don’t like washing them either! But I still do them because I would rather wash dishes than let them collect mold and bacteria on the counter and possibly attract bugs and mice........
Once I can afford to move out, there’s no doubt I’m leaving for a place of my own.
