2 year old - oromotor dysfunction?
My son is 25 months old. He was adopted by a family at birth. He is in speech and OT therapy, and his mom is trying to help him start talking. She sends me videos of sessions where she gets him to repeat after her and i’m just a tiny bit concerned. I wanted to ask her about this in the morning but I wanted to get some second opinions first, I can’t sleep very well thinking about this.
G drools a lot. every picture she sends me there is drool on his shirt and around his mouth. Which doesn’t bother me at all, but the last time I visited him I asked her about it, she said his speech therapist said the muscles around his mouth aren’t very strong, and that they are working on building them. She said that’s part of the reason he’s having trouble talking.
I was wondering about it tonight, when I looked up “drooling and trouble talking” scary things came up, like oromotor dysfunction, apraxia, etc. G eats fine, he loves to eat. He’ll grab an apple and it eat, he always finishes his food.
My question is, does anyone else have/had a LO who is 2, drools and had trouble talking? Do they have any kind of diagnosis? We’re they able to talk well eventually? Again, I will definitely talk to his mom about this in the morning. It’s just 3am right now. Thanks in advance.
