Too popular? Ruby

Question

Ruby in the US is ranked 74 for 2018. I really don’t want the child to have too popular of a name. I’m thinking like what Jennifer was in the 80s/90s.   At #74, just how popular is that?  Are there going to be multiples in the same class at school? 
The other names I’m considering are all well below the 300 mark or so but they just don’t have the same ring to me.   Thoughts for someone afraid of a popular name?

Look at the percentages on the SS website from when you were born. See what matches with Ruby now. It should give you a pretty idea of how common it actually is. (Note: don’t just go by the same rank! The percentages are super different now.)

Don’t go based off the stats for the entire country either. Go to the SS website and choose your state then look at the top 100 list for it. A name can be drastically different per the state, for example my husband likes the name Riley. In the country it’s ranked 28th but in Oregon, where we live, it’s ranked 49th with only 57 total births in 2018. That’s not a whole lot when you think about the size of the state we live in so it’s not as crazy popular here versus other states.

I wouldn’t consider that popular. If you look at the statistics, it’s 1 in 520 baby girls. So you’d expect two in a school of 1000, but definitely not in a class of 25.

My daughters name (Violet) was #68 the year she was born. She’s now in kindergarten and out of 6 kindergarten classes she’s the only violet. The only time I was worried was when we did baby swimming lessons and 3/9 babies were Violet! lol. Hasn’t happened since so I think you’re safe with Ruby:)

I wouldn't consider it popular. I've never met anyone with the name. My kids havent had any classmates with the name either. (I know for certain since I help a few times a week in each of their classes)
